Let the care label lead.
Always follow the instructions shown on the product page and sewn into the garment—those directions take priority over this general guide. Fabrics, linings, trims and construction may require different treatment, even when two pieces appear similar. When in doubt, choose the gentlest option or consult a trusted professional cleaner.

Simple steps before, during and after wear can help each piece retain its original character for longer.
Wash only when needed
Air garments after wear and spot-clean small marks before choosing a full wash.
Choose cool and gentle
When washing is permitted, use mild detergent, a low temperature and gentle handling.
Store with intention
Keep garments clean, dry and away from prolonged sunlight, humidity and friction.

Treat every texture differently.
The care label always takes priorityEach fibre, finish and construction responds differently to water, heat, pressure and movement. Use this as a considered starting point.
Silk & satin
Delicate sheen · fluid drapeUse professional dry cleaning when instructed. If hand washing is permitted, use cool water and a detergent for delicate fabrics. Do not rub, wring or soak for long periods. Dry away from direct sunlight and steam gently from the reverse side.
Lace, mesh & embellishment
Fine surfaces · decorative detailsProtect beads, sequins, appliqué, hooks and delicate lace from snagging. Professional cleaning is often safest. Avoid rubbing decorated areas or ironing directly over embellishment. Store with enough space that trims are not crushed.
Knitwear
Soft structure · needs supportWash only as directed. When hand washing is allowed, support the garment while wet and never twist it. Reshape on a flat towel and allow it to dry naturally. Fold knitwear rather than hanging it to avoid stretching the shoulders and length.
Denim
Colour · character that evolvesWash less frequently where practical. If machine washing is permitted, turn denim inside out, use cool water and wash with similar colours. Air-dry to preserve shape and colour, away from prolonged direct sunlight that may cause uneven fading.
Tailoring, wool & tweed
Structured pieces · textured fibresAir between wears and lightly brush away surface dust. Follow any dry-clean-only instruction. Use a shaped hanger for jackets and coats, empty pockets before storage and let garments breathe rather than sealing them in plastic for long periods.
Cotton & linen
Natural fibres · relaxed finishUse cool or low-temperature washing only when permitted. Reshape while damp and air-dry where possible. Steam or iron at the temperature shown on the label. Natural creasing is part of linen’s character and need not always be pressed away.
Stretch & structured fabrics
Shape-holding · body-contouring finishesHeat can weaken stretch fibres and affect shape. Follow dry-clean-only instructions where shown, avoid tumble drying unless expressly permitted, and store without pressing sharp creases into boning, cups or structured panels.

A gentler routine.
Less friction, less heat and more patience.
Act quickly, never aggressively
Blot fresh marks with a clean, pale cloth. Do not scrub. Test any treatment on a hidden area first and seek professional advice for delicate, coloured or embellished fabrics.
Cool, mild and carefully separated
When machine washing is allowed, close fastenings, turn garments inside out and use a laundry bag for delicate pieces. Wash similar colours together and avoid overloading the machine.
Let shape guide the method
Air-dry whenever allowed. Hang woven garments with care, but dry knitwear flat. Keep pieces away from radiators and strong sunlight. Never tumble dry unless the label expressly permits it.
Use the lowest effective heat
Steam from a short distance and test first. Iron inside out with a pressing cloth where appropriate. Avoid direct heat on lace, sequins, prints, faux leather, coated fabrics and delicate trims.
Store & Protect
Give every piece room to rest.
Considered storage protects colour, shape and detail between wears.
- Store garments only when they are clean and completely dry.
- Use padded or shaped hangers for dresses, tailoring and delicate shoulders.
- Fold knitwear and heavy garments to prevent stretching.
- Keep embellishments covered and separated from fabrics they may snag.
- Use breathable garment bags for longer storage; avoid sealing natural fibres in plastic.
- Keep pieces away from direct sunlight, damp spaces, perfume and household sprays.
Between wears
Refresh before you rewash.
Allow the garment to air in a shaded, ventilated place. A light steam may help release odours and creases when the fabric permits. This can reduce unnecessary washing and help retain the original finish for longer.
